Default Install Tomtom map from USB stick possible?

    Hi

I have Tomtom Go installled on my radio head unit (Android 9.1) in my car. My problem is that the Wifi connection in my car is iffy at best. Downloading maps for it will take something like 50 hours (It is at 2% download after one hour), meaning that I would have to keep the accessories power on for the next two days. There is a usb connection for the radio (No SDcard). I downloaded the files (maps) on my PC and copied them on a memory stick. I was hoping to be able to install them in Tomtom from the stick. Does anybody know if it is possible to do it this way and could somebody point me in the direction of the instructions about how to do this. I have been searching for hours to no avail.

    Thanks

    This has already been discussed.
No. TT puit maps in system partition, which you cannot access if the device is not routed.

I'm surprised that your device have so bad wireless component. Have you tried HotSpot from your phone?

Then, the best way is to plug a USB Wi-Fi adapter into your device, some generic that is supported by all androids.

    Thanks for your comments.

This website has thousands of threads. Like I said, I searched this site for hours before posting but at one point I had to declare defeat and post.

I have not tried hotspot from my phone yet. Will try it today.

I am using my house wifi but the signal is very weak in my driveway. I will get a generic USB WIFI adapter and hope it works.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Problem solved.

I drove my car on the lawn by the living room where my WIFI signal is stronger. Downloaded the map in one hour.

Matter of fact, it is a 4WD (Toyota RAV4).

Biggerdave, I see in you avatar that you are a TomTom expert. Maybe you know the solution to another of my TomTom issue. TomTom works great but when the "lady in the box" gives me route instructions the music turns off, which is OK, but after the instructions are given the music does not get back on as expected. The head unit just goes silent. To get the music back on, I have to go back in the music app and restart the music. I tried several music players with the same result. I tried different tomtom audio channels and still the same result. Any idea what I can do about this?

    Thank you for your insight.

However, I spent quite a bit of time in the Head Unit setting already. What makes me think the problem is with TomTom is that I installed Garmin Streetpilot and Sygic and don't have this issue.

OK, OK, I know. One might say why do I want TomTom if I already have the other two. Well, I also have issues with the other two and I am trying to find a Nav system that works properly. The search feature of Garmin streetpilot is not working (Garmin known issue) and Sygic voice is too low to be understood while driving.

    I am open to comments/solution.

    Thanks

    @pierrrre,

The bottom line is there no GPS app that works 100% of the time.
Even TomTomGo has voice problems for a lot of users over at the TomTom Forum.
The fact that you are even installing it on Head Unit is a problem in many ways.
Even that it is not supported by TomTom.
Have you tried it with mirror link rather than on the head unit direct.
Or try the new TomTom NDS app which was made for Toyota in South America.
It works with mirror link too or you can try to put it on your Head Unit.
But again it is not supported by TomTom.

With the TomTom NDS app you have Audio output to pick from.

    Music channel
    Voice call channel
    System channel
    Notification channel
    Alarm channel
    Ring channel

One of theses channels should work for you that will not effect the music from what ever app you are using.
Plus check with the music app you are using there are user's who would have the same problem and maybe they have a work around to.

You can find the TomTom NDs app here too.

As for you weak WIFI you can always add a TP-Link to your WIFI to extend the range.
I use the TP-Link RE400 it even gives my WIFI in the parking garage of my apartment.
Plus 1/2 down the street I have coverage too.
They do not cot very much.
That way you save on you lawn...........
