Thread: Which tomtom to look for to upgrade?

Im thinking of updating my dated tomtom one xl, for a newer model, but not sure which one to get.

I did own a 1000 model years ago, which was great, but not easily customisable with navcores etc.

Are there any of the earlier models which have a good set of features, responsive, good storage/ram that i should look for?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Post note: i resold the 1000 a while after i purchased it as i was moving to uk, as it was nz based. So a uk model is what im looking for.

Hi thanks for the info, i was looking at a 730, but may look at an x40. From memory live traffic is a subscribed update?

Ah good to know, i wasn't aware of the RDS receiver, so may still look into the 730. Live traffic was good on the go1000, but would rather find a non subscription method if possible. Thanks

520/530/720/730 all much the same once you stick your own navcore on there. You'll notice the speed difference (over the One XL) when searching for a destination and the navigation screen updates quicker too - no more missing the exit from a roundabout because the tomtom's lagging behind.

I prefer the 9.170 navcore, even for my 720. No spoken street names, voice recognition or bluetooth, but that's all gimmicks anyway. Nice simple menu structure and you can turn off Remaining Time/Arrival time (always bollox anyway) to get rid of the clutter.

TomTom 730 or 930. Same thing, except that the 930 has more storage space.

The 730/930 have Bluetooth and can function as a phone hands-free kit.

The 720 doesn't have Bluetooth, but is pretty much the same thing otherwise.

They're cheap these days, so it's worth having a spare one in reserve.

930 has gyroscope - none of lower/upper version has it (if you don't understand about thing - it can navigate in tunnels for good amount of time due to ability watching how/when/how much you do turns) . As for me - BEST solution.
