If you are using your phone in a non coverage area switch your phone to Flight Mode this still keeps the GPS side working and stops the phone from trying to find coverage. When I go Bush with no coverage I switch mine off, as I don't use apps "as my phone can't but is a phone that gives better coverage than other friends phones."
