    If you are trying to run an African map within a Europe app you need to use the European device ID and not the African one.

    The African map folder should be in the same "files" folder as the European one was.

    Instead of or as well as, it doesn't matter.

    I'm sorry, I had accidently installed the 950.6558 version instead of the 955_6746. After copying the right version tomtom wouldn't start the Europe map anymore, either. I then edited the .metadata.xml:

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <santorinicontent>
    <contentlist>
    <bundle>
    <bundleid>com.tomtom.europe</bundleid>
    <content_version>14</content_version>
    <min_app_version>1</min_app_version>
    <download>
    <url location="file://mnt/sdcard/tomtom/com.tomtom.europe"/>
    </download>
    <size>0</size>
    </bundle>
    </contentlist>
    </santorinicontent>
    and this did the trick. At start tomtom gave me a choice to select a map (which it will do so only at the first start).
    Thank you anyway.

    As your app does not appear to have a map changer you will be given a choice of maps if you delete the "currentmap.dat" file.
    (Of course this only works if you have more that one map installed).
