Interestingly, the patch worked with 4.2.5 and Win XP SP3, but only after adding the comdlg32.ocx to sys32 directory...It was missing from the xp load (comdlg32.dll was there) and the missing file error popped up...
I just posted this five minutes ago:
The solution is YES. I have found the answer with a quick Google search. The patched exe file is not an installation file. It has just to replace the previous BaseCamp.exe file in the Program file.I used to have an old version of Basecamp. Today I have downloaded from the official site the last available version (4.2.5).
It seems to run but some maps are blocked (they still run on Mapsource, though).
To solve it, I have downloaded the patch that catymag is proposing (BaseCamp_4.2.5_patched. rar). When I double click the BaseCamp.exe file I have an error message: "The software cannot start because exiv2.dll is missing. Try to reinstall the software to correct this error".
Am I doing something wrong?
I have just done it and it works perfectly.
Thanks for the link.![]()

You must download GMAP folder for your maps (CNEUNT 2014.10 ALL and 2014.40 ALL for example) and install its on PC. After this you do not need Nuvi as connected device and may compare this map for your route!
Garmin, how much is 30 pieces of silver for Judas today? Were they worthy for crucifix of GPSPower?
Hi Catymag and thanks for your reply. I read the link about creating a virtual SD drive in order to see the map in Basecamp. So it's not just a case of placing the map in a specific folder (such as C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps) then? The map must be stored in a virtual SD to be visible in Basecamp? Or does it work if stored on a real SD card?
Is this related to the patched version of Basecamp - ie, does the patched version get around this restriction, or what other features does the patched version allow that the normal Basecamp does not?
Thanks again for your help
Real sd/Garmin/gmapsupp.img is ok, but MS flag must be 0

You have to navigate to get to the good.

Thanks Catymag, I shall try setting the MS flag to 0 and see if I can get my map working in Basecamp.
However, even when the MS flag is 0, the map still be in either a virtual SD or real SD card to work - its not possible to have it in a normal folder on the HDD (such as C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps) ?

Ah, so that is what Giomen mentions in post #13 above!
I didn't realise there was a separate version of the maps for use with Basecamp on a pc. When I installed Basecamp it created the folder C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps but it was empty. I tried copying the map from my nuvi to this folder but it didn't show up in Basecamp.
I shall look into getting the pc version of the maps. It would be good to have the maps available on my laptop - although I guess storing the normal map on a SD card or else with the nuvi plugged in is okay too.
