In that case you shouldn't use Garmin Map Updater either that collects a lot of data from installed maps and used unlock keys etc.
Running Garmin Lifetime Updater or Garmin Map Updater in a very clean and lean Virtual Machine gives just the info about what the software can read from the used GarminDevice.xml files.

Avoid that Garmin Lifetime runs at start-up by removing the Windows Registry key that starts the application.

Example of Run key for Windows 64-bit (remove the "Wow6432Node\" path if you have 32-bit Windows):

I was unaware that Garmin collects Data with a map update. I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

But I still get a feeling the data collected with the Map Updater is less than is collected than if you give them "permission" to collect Data when using a Beta.

I can't say one way or the other, it's just a gut feeling.
