@949BFN,
1- The number of Where-To icons seems to be 1 or 2 depending on the GPS used.
2- Good point. If GPI Creator can put it in the first level of Extras, EPE should be able to do the same. I'll keep this in mind.
3- Emulate POI Loader means it will put the POI in the Extra/Custom POIs. Otherwise, it will put the icon in the Where-To menu. When using the Where-To format, the icon format may be disserent depending onthe GPS used. If your custom POI Where-To icon looks bad (garbled or with bad color), try to check the Alternate Icon format and sage to a .gpi again. That should fix the Where-To icon colors.
4- Yes you can. If you use EPE and try to "File->Export as Category" or "Export as Symbol", ... This will automatically create categories under the Where-To icon menu. Same thing if you use Emulate POI Loader: it will create categories under Extras/Custom POIs. Of course, you need to have set the Category (or Symbol) fields in your POIs.
N.B. I am glad you found some use for EPE. I probably spent 1000 hours on it over the past 18 months (learning and coding). I learned a lot of things and I am happy to share the result with everybody. I really think a good POI editor was a missing link in Garmin's portfolio of products. When I got my first GPS 2 years ago, I was disapointed by the fact that most POI files contained only coordinates. I wanted to add the complete address, opening hours, cost for visit and other relevant information. Since I cound not find any free POI Editor, I made EPE for that purpose. Then, people started to ask for features and little by little I added them. The result is the current EPE.
Thank you for your feedback.
