Tool GPSdaemon:extract the files contained in the GMAPSUPP.img file

GPSdaemon:extract the files contained in the GMAPSUPP.img file

GPSdaemon is in english , it lets you connect to a GPS handheld over USB or serial com port. It should get the unit ID and extract the files contained in the GMAPSUPP.img file stored in the GPS and save them to a folder of your choice.

You can also extract files from as GMAPSUPP.IMG file on PC or card. First you create a Map List, then select one or all files and start Map Extract. The original files will then be recreated in the folder you've chosen.

You could also extract POI files. See post n18

By opening a DOSwindow and giving the command "gpsdaemon.exe -e" you will enter Expert Level which allows you to send Hex data to the GPS over serial or USb. You can also set some parameters as well as packet headers.
Addionally, there is 'Full model': [gpsdaemon.exe -full] which enables dumping of regions. See post n 33> for info.

Can we just then save back the extracted file to the Garmin folder? No need to generate a UNL file again?

    Extracting POIs... Mmmm! Interesting.

1- Which file contains the POIs? .TYP? .MD2?
2- If one of those, I guess they are encrypted. Sounds like a challenge for me...

    Edit:

3- Why do I get a "Cannot open USB port" with my 3750? Do I need a service cable or do I need to put the GPS in a special mode?

    @ Turbo

This function is for older garmin devices that support garmin protocol for communication like etrex, gpsmap etc. where POIs and maps are stored in a non-accessible part in the memory.

BTW maybe you will be interested what I have wrote here:

GPS like 60Csx or etrex have marine POI (for example tides) in firmware, the same way like basemap. You can download this POI to PC using gpsdaemon. You can find them on Garmin site too, as a firmware update.

OK, I think I get it. I thought it was possible to extract all POIs from the map file, but that does not seems to be the case. If I had access to the POI file within the map, I could use my brain to extract them as plain text.
