Garmin drivesmart 65 with Alexa

Hi

My garmin device [drivesmart 65 with Alexa] isnt showing the proximity alerts (speed camera) when it isnt connected to the garmin smartphone app (driveSmart). If connected to the smartpone app , then the alerts would work.
I tried installing the [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] but still the same issue.

Its system software (firmware) is not an encrypted version of Garmin's proprietary firmware, like for example is run by the Drive 52 of which you may be thinking. The DriveSmart 55_65 devices use a form of Linux which is Open Source:

- however whether encrypted or Linux the firmware cannot yet be 'patched' as can usual Garmin fw devices which only have MSV/GVS protection.

It all comes down to where you are buying a new Garmin or a second hand one.
Do you homework as to what you are looking for in a GPS Unit.

Garmin is only trying to protect what they have so users can not come in the back door to get something for nothing.

I have a lot of money tied up in Garmin products and they all work. If I need a map that did not come with what I bought because I am planning to say spend a couple of weeks in the US and I have an EU Garmin.
Then I buy a one time map for the US the chances of going back would be very small.
Now here is the EU there are 2 types of GPS unit setup.
You can get the class classification:

Newer Garmin GPS's

LMT-S <----Needs access to smartphone for traffic
LMT-D <--- Has Dab+ built in to get traffic

I have 2 units with LMT-D that came with life time Speed Cameras.

As for LMT-S that need a smartphone I avoid them.

So always do you homework when thing about a Garmin Unit and if it really fits you needs and not have to patch it to get what you want.
With the newer Garmin that is not working any more and I do not see anyone trying to take on this new format that Garmin has.

installed SCDB using POI Loader
Then removed 'all custom POI' using POI Loader
then remoced all the cyclops stuff from device by connecting to PC
Then installed unlocked cyclops from the other thread.

Now , they are working.

so ..here is what i found

you can use SCDB
you can use unlocked cyclops files
once you connect to the smartphone app , speedcamera data from the app will overwrite the offline unlocked cyclops files. Next time when you are offline, it wont show the offline data also.
You cant use offline cyclops and smartphone app at the same time.

I ordered drivesmart version of the 65 and 65-d is'nt available anymore. Can you modify contents of sd like usual, how did you install cyclops? i might hawe to send this one back if i cant get speedcams installed.

Can anyone confirm that this above poster activexperts trick works as long as you don't connet to smartphone?

Yes i see but i don't want to connect it to my phone. I was asking will speedcam work if i install it via computer and newer connect to my phone, i have no idea if it will work this way. I may have to test it and see.

edit: maby someone knows if even cyclops speedcam files works this way on tis thing. Let me know.

edit2: I may not understand this right, do i have speedcams even when not connected to smartphone and only for updates i need smartphone? i have speedcam files and want to install it with computer like with my old navigator

I now had this navigator few days and i highly recommed it.

- you do not have to install app, or connect it to your phone for it to work like a normal navigator
- cyclops europe is included so you don't need to install speedcams manually
- you can turn off wifi and bluetooth if not needed
- with bluetooth connection you can use it as handsfree and it works very well, no smartphone app is needed
- it is ready to use out of the box, there is no need to hack this thing in any way

- you can not use traffic funtion without smartphone app which requires to create garmin account and i think you need to register the device, i'm not sure i don't have garmin account

All in all great purchase.
