Updating a Garmin Quest 2 - Seems possible based on another thread updating a Garmin 2720?

Hello All,

I was just about to give up searching for a solution for updating the maps on my Garmin Quest 2 that I use on my motorcycle when I found this posting showing how to update the maps on a Garmin 2720. Although the 2720 is not a Garmin Quest 2 it has a similar challenge, that is there is no SD card where maps are stored, everything is stored in memory. Seems based on the threads below I should be able to use the same command line approach to updating the maps?

I would like to get some validation as to my approach and how to communicate with the Quest 2 to find out how much storage capacity it has and as I suspect how to trim down a gmapprom.img file by removing maps I wont need?

Hi
I'm guessing that your device does not support the newer NT type map products That means you are stuck to old 2009 Garmin non-NT map or you can go for free OSM maps that are compatible with your device and updated.
I think you can use Mapsource to load the map to your Quest 2, selecting the right size of the gmapsupp.img your Quest can support .

My device can use the NT type map products, the original Quest cannot. Here was a confirmation response I received from GPS City tech support.

Dear Sir:

Thank you for your interest in GPSCity.

The Garmin Quest 2 is a discontinued device and has very limited memory.

Smaller regions of the City Navigator maps can be installed using the Garmin City Navigator North America NT DVD.

We would highly recommended upgrading to a new GPS.

I have a gmapprom.img file that I don't know how to take smaller sections from and upload to the Quest 2? Also, I have installed Mapsource and have City Navigator North America NT 2016.1 Mapsource can communicate with the Quest 2 and I transferred waypoints and tracks that are in the Quest 2 memory.

I was able to unlock the mapset using Unlock_Mapset_2 but now if I go to the map and select a section of the map I receive an error telling me to reinstall the mapsource again and that it could not open an index file CNNANT_2016_10.mdx - I checked and this file is not present?

Probably your City Navigator install isn't good.

Unlock with [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
and follow the above linked thread to send the map to your Quest.

You unit doesn't use SID files.

UnlockMapSource_v5.0 get's deleted as a Trojan .. I there an alternative?

False positive. Replace it or at least disable your current AV while you use UnLock MapSource Directory.

It is not a trojan as Caty says in the thread, but you can also use this unlocker [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] to unlock the installed map in your computer.
Then the (small) block can be selected and generated from Mapsource and transferred to your gps.
