Hi,
I just got new Nuvi 2597LMT with Europe lifetime map, I have 2 problems:

1- Can't see .system folder even after showing the hidden files from windows.
2-I copied an unlock img file into SD card it give me the message "can't unlock map"once I start my garmin, the same img file worked perfectly on other nuvi device.


please help me out as I am a beginner in Garmin

I'm planning to get 2599;
would it be able to install City Navigator from the forum links?
or is that why iali tried to unlock the device (and it's not possible atm)?

Most likely, iali has nuvi 2597 with HWID: 2077

No, it won't work to unlock maps using gimgunlock in some new devices and unfortunately 2xx9 series [including your 2599] are affected as confirmed in catymag's post you quoted. See also the post which is linked by catymag in Post #2 above, i.e. this info:

It unlocks NT (not NTU) IMGs in some 2014 devices, but not working with all new devices 2xx9 and probably in most of newer devices firmware

BTW do you know, if I purchase City Navigator, do I get its updates for free (as I will for maps with LifeTime)?

I notice your location is UK. Are you buying a device from US or somewhere other than UK/EU? I ask because afaik the only 2599 offered in UK is the 2599LMT-D [T-D means Digital Traffic and LM means Lifetime Maps] and it comes with full EU as OEM.

correct - I'm buying in UK - Europe version. Does it mean I don't have to buy Navigator to have detailed POI?

I use TomTom for years, and now I decided to upgrade for sth with Live Traffic (which seems to be so useful), but their newest models don't work with iOS 8 properly.
I chose G2599 Europe, and now, as I understand, for detailed POI and buildings info, I need addition like CityNavigator. Am I correct?
