Nuvi 3790. Disappeared features? Model# loss problems ?

Hello there

I am brazilian, have this 3790T purchased in the US a few months back.

It worked fine. Bluetooth conection with my Blackberry, Voice Command tested ok.

I updated the CN North American map by connecting it to the Garmin website, using myGarmin, GarminMapUpdater v3.1.13 and again TODAY using GarminMapUpdater v3.1.14.

The maps are now CNNA Upper CAN DEM North America and CN North America 2313.10 ALL traffic trends North America 4.25. There are no other maps and no SD card inserted.

The Bluethooth connection and the Voice Command fuctions STOPPED working after the first update. And are still not working after the v3.1.14 update.

I mean: there is NO "PHONE' icon on the main screen and the 3790T does not respond to connection request by my phone. Voice Command means NOTHING now.

Furthermore, when I turn the device ON, there is this pop-up message: "Cannot unlock maps"

All the update process went OK except the fact the maps were not saved to my HD, as I requested. But a final message said "Your device was updated OK".

Can anyone help me with these 3 issues ?
IMPORTANT: If you have found this thread because you have lost features and your 37 Series nuvi now identifies only as 'nuvi 37xx' on start-up and in Tools>Settings>System>About screen, please read Posts #34 and #38 BEFORE asking for help in this thread. If you have a backup of your unit's region 41 then simply restore it and your unit should then function normally. See Post #25 for details and read [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] for instructions on how to make and restore rgn41. If you don't have a backup of rgn41, you can regain all features and more by converting it to 34x0 but see the warning re accuracy in Post #25 and read the threads linked there before deciding. Don't post anything in open forum showing your Unit ID, that must be done by Private Message only as per Posts #34 & #38.

Probably you hadnt enough space on nuvi, or something went wrong
Update Mapupdater to the latest version.
Put your Garmin Device.xml in an 4 gb sd/Garmin folder, connect it to pc and run again Garmin Mapudater.
Then replace old files in nuvi, check Garmin Device.xml for files paths.
Voice commands dont work if you dont have the entire CNNAM-

Do you have bluetooth icon in menu? What do you have in device info? 3790 or 37xx ?

Seems like a dangeros process updating maps on Garmin website.
Looks like the Map was partially updated but garmin failed to send the GMA file and GMA information to the unit.
I would try to do the update again but first clean out all unnecessary files from the unit. (to maximise free space)
Us non North-Americans oftem have problems with Internet Outages in the middle of something.

Good advices from Caty and Dasilvarsa. Yes, you neeed to reinstall the whole mapping again. If you wish better first install it on an SD card. And one more equestion do you have in the system menu nuvi 37xx not nuvi 3790? Unfortunatelly, common issue on 37 series.

MapUpdater is at the latest, v3.1.14, downloaded by the update process at myGarmin just before the latest atempt to fix problems.

F:\Garmin\GarminDevice.xml says the device is a 37xx, not 3790. Should I update this manualy ?

I do have a clean, empty, 4GB microSD card.

Questions are:

1. how do I tell MapUpdater to install the map there ?
2. how do I move the map to the main memory, since I need a SD card to hold brazilian maps ?

And yes, Internet conections is a crap down here, specially the area where I live. This could have ruined the whole process.

The problem is you lost your model number. The map update went wrong probably.
Actually you have a basic 37xx, no bluetooth and other features. If you havent a backup of your NV ,it will be complicated to restore it.
You can edit your GarminDevice.xml before updating maps and get 3790 files, but you'll have to do it every time you want to update it.
Just GarminDevice.xml is needed in sd in a Garmin folder to update maps with Mapupdater.
To have back 3790 features like bluetooth and voice commands you can transform it in 34xx or find someone who can use another 3790 NV to prepare needed region to dump in your nuvi via sd.
Or if the Nuvi is still on warranty you can send to Garmin to restore it.

A good advice : dont use Nuvi to update maps via Mapupdater or to update firmware via Webupdater, please use sd.

In fact, I did NOT made myself clear:

The 3970T was working perfectly when it came out of the box: I used voice command and it connected with my blackberry for phone calls.

So, I believe that I've got an actual (not basic) 3790T.

The problems of lost feature occured after I "upgraded" (stupid thing to do, I know now) using GarminMapUpdater.

This what I need to recover from.

Adding:

Good thing is hat I remembered having a backup of the nuvi made on May 23rd.

The backup folder has all the sub-folders, like .System, Demo, Garmin, ... Voice,

plus files: .sun; .VolumeIcon.icns; nuci_drive.ico

Important questions:

What I have to do is just the opposite of the backup ?
I mean: just use Windows to copy everything back ?

Any special considerations ?

All files and folders (back up) won't help.
You need rgn#41 to recover 37xx --> 3790.

You should need the backup of Non Vol memory coz firmware update or Mapupdater corrupted it
37xx in Nuvi infos means that your Nuvi lost Non Volatile memory. This Non Volatile memory includes model number, registration code and unlock codes for factory preinstalled map. Since there is no model number, Nuvi software doesn't unlock features which are model dependent. NV rgn#41 contains 3790 model number.
It can be restored in 2 ways, by sd if someone helps you, or by factory cable,but both ways are a bit complicated., better to send it to Garmin if warranty is still valid.

EDIT: have you checked in Nuvi infos if you really have 37xx instead of 3790?
