How do I get to see them on TomTom?
Answer: copy the content of the downloaded "Raster" Folder to the "Raster" Folder on your TomTom. If no Raster Folder exists; copy the Raster Folder to your TomTom. (I copied to SD card)
Then "Browse map" and zoom out until you see the World map.

You can use an add-in program called "ttMaps" to display Raster Maps in *.ecw format on your TomTom device> Google: "ttMaps"
You can use "Global Mapper" to create *.ecw maps from most georeferenced digital maps like *.geotiff.
