QWERTY keyboard?

A little tinkering helps:
Go to <GPS Drive Letter>:\Keyboards, edit en_US.kbd, replace the following line <group name="QWERTY" priority="1" wide_screen_only="true"> by <group name="QWERTY" priority="1" wide_screen_only="false"> and <group name="ABCDE" priority="0" wide_screen_only="false"> to <group name="ABCDE" priority="0" wide_screen_only="true">.

That will do the trick!

What model Nuvi do you have?

Some models (eg 255W) allow you to chose QWERTY or ABC.

I am on my Nuvi 265 and 1490 have chose QWERTY or ABC.
Are you sure that you have no possibility of change

First, go to Service-Setting-System (not to Language)-and you can find Keybord Layout button...

The 1250 does not give you a choice - ABC only.

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

This may help others.

I have modied many nuvi keyboard files to:
QWERTY, Upper case only, reversed etc.
The attached QWERTY file works on my nuvi 1250.

"en_US.kbd" is stored on the GPS in the \Keyboards folder. Please rename or copy the original file to say "en_US._kbd_original" for archiving.
Copy the the attached unzipped "en_US.kbd" file to the same \Keyboards folder.

Ensure you have the appropriate keyboard selected - from the startup screen:
Tools > Settings > Language > Keyboard > American English > Return (3 times)

scubadoo thanks for the mod. Now my 1250 has querty But i noticed there is a small lag when I press the buttons. Is there anything in your coding/moding to help remove this lag?

Great... it works in my Nuvi 1300. Now I have QWERTY after copied the en_US.kbd to the keyboard folder.. Thanks a lot.
