Thread: New voices TTS2 from Garmin

I have Sangeeta on my 3490 (22762 KB)
It came through webupdater.
The question is
Is Sangeeta a TTS2 voice or a standard TTS Voice ?
Which units can support TTS2 voices ?
We wouldn't want members to brick their units by installing voices.
I think this needs clarification.

I've tried the large (22.2MB) Sangeeta vpm file in Nuvi 265, 1390, 2350, 2460, 2455, 3790, 3490 and 3590. It 'bricked' none. If a newly added voice file did prevent a unit from booting correctly, it can simply be removed or the unit cured. No big deal. But due to the range of units i've tried it in, i doubt it will cause any problems in any unit that can normally handle TTS. I've left the file in all the above units units, even the ones where i knew it would be, it's proved to be, incompatible and with no ill-effects so far. The small file works only in x0, x2, x4 and probably 1x0 (but untested in last).

I tested it with IT & FR first as requested, and then did several other EU language kb/text settings as well to further test it. As said, the small file will not work in any 2/3xxx unit.

Maybe these voices are meant for that series, but they do work with other earlier units... mostly with 24xx/25xx/34xx, BUT the AU 2460 is NOT a device related to the 24/25/34 MTP units. It is more like a 5" version of a 23xx and has similar menu and settings as that series and the 37xx, and yet the Sangeeta voice works in it fine.

EDIT: I now believe it's unsafe to try the new voices TTS2 in older units. I now know that the Sangeeta voice file i was referring to in the tests above is an older TTS(1) file.

Sorry guys, you're right. Is spite of it's large size (22.2MB) the Sangeeta file that Roger & I tested is in fact a TTS(1) not TTS2 as you both politely queried above. Maybe there are other older TTS files over 20MB, but Sangeeta is the first one that i'm aware of other than Maged (Arabic).

I too think that warning should be added. I've added an edit to my post #11 to clarify also.

Also this voice may be compatible with Garmin StreetPilot application for other OS. In any case internal TTS voice for this program have this data but decompiled.
