Default Unlock Binatone u435 for iGo, if possible !

I have a Binatone u435 (working with it’s own software) which I would like to unlock and run iGo Primo on if possible. It has an SD Card Slot and I have an SD card.

The unit has 128MB of RAM and running it’s own software seems pretty lively and pleasant to use, however, the maps are way out of date.

I do not seem to be able to connect it to a PC – it supposedly uses ActiveSync and/or Windows Mobile Device Centre (presumably depending on the OS used) – I have found some instructions for connecting and think that I have followed them carefully and correctly, but so far I have failed to achieve a connection. I have tried using a Vista VM and a non virtual Windows 7 installation, without success; I have tried with 3 different USB leads, which work to connect other SataNavs. The version of WMDC I used is installed from a file called ‘drvupdate-x86.exe’. I could try with Windows 10 (either virtual or actual) but would need to build the correct system as apparently it might require a particular build to work (possibly !).

    Anyway, I have also read various guides (a very extensive one by ‘Fatboyfun’ – thanks for that) to unlocking Binatone SatNav’s in general and this is what I have tried. I placed an iGo8 folder (and after failing with that, an iGo Primo folder) on the root of the SD Card – I created a “Shell.ini” file (on the root) within which was a single line;
    \sdmmc\MobileNavigator\MobileNavigator.exe

The iGo8 folder (and the Primo folder after that) was renamed ‘MobileNavigator’ and the iGo exe file was renamed to ‘MobileNavigator.exe’.

I inserted the SD Card into the SatNav and restarted it – I get to the normal opening screen (after the Grey and Blue 'Binatone’ splash screen) and was presented with the two normal buttons – ‘Navigation’ & ‘Setting’ – pressing the ‘Navigation’ always takes me to the Binatones own software.

I have also tried using the ‘Reset’ button at this point with the same results. I have tried each method a good few times.
It may be that this particular SatNav cannot be unlocked, it might be that something is wrong with the SD Card slot – the SD Card works in other devices. It might be that no one knows how to do it, that’s perfectly possible.

If anyone can help with any advice or info that would be absolutely great. I would also welcome some info on how to connect it to a PC where it might then be possible to see how it is programmed to start normally; then it might be possible to subvert it somehow.

Anyway, thanks very much for reading and a very Happy New Year to everyone !

    Thanks

Do not use Win10, try to find comp with Win7 or even with XP.

GPS NDrive, Binatone, Mappy, has several ways to unlock, depending on the models.
These three brands (with Ndrive software) use the same hardware, the same firmware and the same unlocking methods.
I see that you have problems connecting to the PC, I recommend trying these two methods.
Spoiler: Tested in NDrive Touch SE(WinCE6.0) and Touch XL SE (WinCE6.0):
    1. Create a folder or txt file with the following name "Explorer.exe" and place it on the SD card.
    2. Put the card in the device and restart, it will open the WinCE 6.0.
    3. Third: Click on the start menu and choose the configuration option that is thejust like the WindowsCE control panel, go to the scroll bar andclick until a green option appears with the USB symbol with the following name "USB Clinte" double click to open, you will see a box with the option "DONE" and an arrow next to it, click on it the long-awaited "USBMASSTORAGE" option will appear, click on it and the it will take the place of "DONE", next to it you will see another option "CHANGE", a message will appear that the option is will become active after restarting winCE. you can remove the card and restart the device.

Spoiler: Tested in NDrive Touch Ligth(WinCE6.0):

To unlock NDrive Touch Light, it's very simple, you don't need to change anything on NDrive:
    1. Create a new file with the notepad, with the name "YFGo2CE.bld", with any content, as long as it has at least one character.
    2. Copy this file to the root of the memory card (SDMMC) and restart the NDrive through the "hole" of Reset that is behind the device.

I use windows 10 with WMDC without any problem, here's what I did:

Hi Boki_Srb, thanks for reading my post and replying.

As I mentioned I have tried connecting with a Windows 7 PC (also a Vista VM and an XP VM) without success :-(

On the Windows 7 PC and the Vista VM I have tried using WMDC and on the Windows XP VM I tried using ActiveSync - In Vista & XP it tries to connect several times but is not successful. With Windows 7 it loads a device driver and the 'Eject' icon in the system tray says 'Eject Generic Serial (PROTOTYPE-- Remember to change idVendor)' - I dont know what that actually means. The Win7 PC is running Pro x64.

The unit is comparatively unused and runs well (though very out of date !) but there could be something wrong with it I suppose.

Should I try the Windows 10 method ? Does it matter if it is a VM or real PC ?

Thanks for trying to help me, I appreciate it.

Hi apolyps3, thanks very much for taking the time to try and help.

I tried the 'explorer.exe' method and the 'YFGo2CE.bld' method - both failed to do anything. I placed them on the root of the SD Card (I tried 2, one 2GB and one 4GB) - the SatNav booted to its normal 2 button 'Navigation' & 'Settings' screen after the 'Binatone' splash screen.

Just so I am sure - when you say that it can be a file or a folder named 'Explorer.exe' placed on the SD Card, is that right ? How does that work ? Just interested.
CANCEL that - I missed the fact that you hads provided a rar of the required files (thanks for that) - yes, I have tried that as instructed.

I will try using the Windows 10 method that you mention today. Does it matter if it's an actual PC or a VM ? Does it matter which version of Windows 10 I use.

Thanks for taking the time to try and help, it's appreciated.

I don't believe that your Binatone has any kind of problem, I think it needs some small configuration ...
If you tried with Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 and WMDC did not work it makes no sense to try to work with Windows 10.
Your operating systems may not have the appropriate driver.
one last tip to try to help you with the synchronization problem, is to install NPlus to try to solve the connection problem:
    Spoiler: NPlus

Your model (U435) belongs to the binatone series U435 / U505 / U605, this can help you find information about synchronization problems.
Try NPlus, I have no other idea for the synchronization problem.

Here is information on how it was done on the U605, in this case there were no connection problems:
