Have no idea what prefix it should be...
Got a Garmin 10R-04 6953 4NSF, branded for Volkswagen. From what I understand it's really a Navigon 70/71.
It starts up with VW logo and three rows about firmware version, then halts.
If I reset it to factory settings I get the white screen for calibrating the touch screen afterwards. At this time it identifies as GARMIN GPS in the Windows XP computer (not recognized at all in Windows 10).
When the screen calibration is done - I get the icon with the unit connected to the computer. Now the Garmin device is no longer present but instead two USB devices called:
NAVIGON WOLF_FLASH USB Device
NAVIGON WOLF_SD_CARD USB Device
They appear as two removable devices but these just opens empty windows and nothing (that I tried) can be saved to them.
Not sure I have the proper drivers, I installed the ones Garmin offers on their driver page.
Navigon Fresh can't find it at all (not that it would be much useful now-a-days, it seems).
I found links to a Navigon 70/71 VW backup here and after a couple of days downloading the eight parts I placed them on a FAT32 formatted microSD card hoping itwould boot from there - it doesn't.
Perhaps it needs a certain name on the card, have tried NAVIGON, NAVIGONSD, GARMIN...
Also tried adding the files for rebranding a navigator from Seat/Skoda to VW, which is activating DevMode as far as I understand.
I got "Cure" as well, even if it works with this navigator I have no firmware file to use with it.
RMPrepUSB was not included in that package, GarminCure3.exe and Updater.exe with a pdf that has instructions.
A firmware repair program has also been mentioned for this navigator but files were lost and Garmin customer service (Swedish at least) seem to know nothing about it - Navigon was purged from Gamin last year as far as I know.
CAN it be booted or reflashed from the microSD card?
Is it junk and nothing can be done?
Is there some optional way to get it running again, like desoldering and swapping the eeprom/flashrom or similar.
I'm thinking, if factory settings is stored in one area and it's trying to flash to defective memory it won't work.
Edit:
It seems it's the navigator itself that renames the microSD card to "NAVIGONSD" after a factory reset.
... not that it matters - still no progress.![]()
