Hi Folks,
I have a Kenwood DNX573S purchased in 2017 and installed in my truck. A few months ago it started whining and forcing me to click "okay" on an idiot-check warning me that my maps were over a year old.
The old maps were not much of a problem to me, but another annoying "okay" box was. So I recently decided to upgrade the maps. Expecting to have to pay something I was pleased that it seems the first upgrade (and more?) was free.
So I followed [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] instructions (they were almost right :-) and initialized my SD card, downloaded the free new maps with their proprietary program, and then tried to install the new/updated maps.
This is where the problem came in.
After about an hour with the truck running and the DNX573S telling me it was updating the maps, I had to turn the truck off. I assumed it must be finished because it took me much less time than an hour to download the maps.
But instead of having updated maps, the DNX573S still tells me that the maps are over a year old. So I have a few questions about this process and have found the Kenwood/Garmin web sites to be utterly useless.
- How long should the update process take? (This is just for the default/stock map that came with the unit.)
- Will the update copy the map into the DNX573S when it's done? In other words, when it's finished, will I have to keep the SD card in the DNX573S's slot all the time?
- Any other tips/advice you might have for me in doing this?
