Seems an odd problem indeed. I've moved these post to Kenwood-Garmin section to get more targeted attention, maybe other Kenwood users have had this also [your bad pun pardoned for sure, is trumped by my 'contract' typo anyway].
Some Garmin PNAs will exhibit such behavour if a card is inserted when running, others will reboot automatically. Not reading the card on booting is unusual however.
