Since you said that the unit doesn't even recognize that there's files on your USB drive, that tells me you did not rename the map file. Some of the files you won't need, but here's a detailed explanation:
Start by formatting your USB stick as FAT32
After you follow the instructions in Lolypop000's post #45 above, you will have a folder named 'Garmin' on your USB stick. Inside that folder, there will be a file named 'GarminDevice.xml' from there, simply add the rest of the files:
>gmapsupp.img (this is the CNNANT 2014.30 file - it will be named 'gmapprom.img after you extract it but you will need to rename it gmapsupp.img)
>gmapsupp.gma
>gmapsupp.unl [these last 2 files (.gma & .unl) are available for download on post #38]
Then add the following folders inside the Garmin folder with their respective files:
>G2S Folder (with file D2329150A.G2S)
>JCV Folder (with file D3192110A.JCV)
>PNX Folder (with file 0464H4A0.PNX)
>SID Folder (with file D3406100A.SID)
>SQLite Folder (with file D315600.DB)
That's all the files you need. The gmap3d.img file is not necessary but if you leave it, make sure you unlock it as well.
Did you make sure that after you extracted the gmapprom.img file and copied it to the USB stick, you renamed it 'gmapsupp.img'? Then once that file is in your USB stick, click and hold it, then drag it on top of the gimgunlock.exe icon on your desktop. Release the mouse button. You should see a command prompt window run for a few seconds.
Once all this is done, eject the USB drive from your computer and go connect the USB stick to the USB cable on you Kenwood unit.
Place the unit in Standby mode
Open Navigation
Go to Settings
Press Update Map
Press OK to continue
When it's done uploading (~10-15 minutes), remove the USB stick, power down the unit and restart it. Go back into navigation, settings, map, about. It should show the new 2014.30 map.
If you did not rename the map image to 'gmapprom.img' it's not going to work. I can't stress this enough. Let us know how it goes.
