What I wanted to say - in his case, he is using "cooked" firmware. Even worse case - firmware that is not intended to be found on that generation of device.
He did not give enough data, but from his story I conclude that this device is not intended for newer editions of Android. Probably with older hardware.
And new versions of android are not at all designed to support older models. Although it was never an official case, it had previously been less hardware makers, so it was easier to switch OS-es from one model to other.
Anyway, in such cases, the big question is from which device and how it is ported at all. Problems - very often.
It is not even clear to me why people then even ask questions on that cases. If something don't work - ask creators of firmware. Or use another software.
