    Default [SOLVED] Navigation won`t run.

Hello all, first off I hope this is posted in the correct section, apologies if it isn`t...

    The problem

A few days ago i was at my old mans [dads] and he`s had this sat nav he bought of Ebay for a while but still hasn`t really got a clue how to use it.
Anyway I helped him get the correct destination in [Whitby], we did the trial run through and things seemed hunky-dory.

Then he said the times don`t match up, its showing the wrong time [currently] and the wrong destination time. After looking in the limited settings there was a time section which I set accordingly thinking that would be it...doh!

The machine was getting low on battery so it was powered off but on the next boot we got a "windows couldn`t find xyz.bmp" or something to that effect. This continued and there was nothing I could do because the window wouldn`t close [the system was auto set to start the navigation program].

After going to the pub for a few scoops I tried again but got the same but then noticed a pin hole with "reset" on the back. What the hell, got a paperclip and pressed it...the machine re-booted but now all it would do was try and run the navi program, the blue bar would go across and the screen with "Show Map", "Destination", etc, would come up then go off and the whole thing would start again in a loop.

Restarting the machine just ended up starting the navigation software immediately which just looped round, somehow I managed to stop that so it now it just boots into WinCE and I could get the machine hooked up to a pc. After looking around I found Primo.exe and from there have deduced that it is supposed to run iGO prime.

Liking a bit of a tech challenge is what`s brought me here, I could just bin the thing but where`s the fun in that. I`m hoping someone out there could help guide me in the right direction for what to possibly fix or even to reload the software. Iv`e searched the forum for a few hours and have picked up some potential ideas but am still not sure what to do.

Any pointers or help would be much appreciated.

Device is a XGody 560 running WinCE 8GB Flash 128 MB RAM

    ROM version: 84.PM_A9.E-5.020131212
    Software Version: V2.0.15.06.18

    iGO primo 2.4

    Primo.exe 9.6.13.405512

I think the resolution is 480x272 [not 100% sure]

I have access to windows [7+10], Linux and have an 8GB Micro SD card if needed. Iv`e also backed up all the files I could access off the device from Mass Storage.

Once again, many thanks if anyone can help,

    Matt

If any more info is needed, hopefully I`ll be able to supply it.

    This one:
    Code:

    ?
I hope you have the instruction manual for the unit, because no one else can help you set it up.

    Delete old software. Put new
If problem persists, device is (most likely) faulty

    You need:

    - Software
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
    - latest maps:
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
To start you can put only one map, your state
    - latest global_cfg
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
    - speedcams
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
pay attention to the archive pass
    - DEM file
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
use first link, standard DEM, approx ~ 90MB
    - and, of course, instructions
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Some basic rules for WinCE Primo releases (also suite for others):
    - minimal content - only those countries where you will actually travel, this quarter
    - speedcams too. It's amazing how that little file can slow down the navi
    - do not add extra licence. This edition do not need any new...
    - if you are not a trucker, do not use ftr files
    - Primo can not "see" fjw files, do not use them
    - Do not duplicate hnr files. That means, use eastern, or western, or full, but not two or all three.

That`s the one, looks like I`ll have to just do a trial and error with it [may email XGody] as only have some poxy instruction manual which said "any problems press the reset button"

The files [maps, poi, etc] that are already on the device seem pretty up to date (late 2018), would I be alright just using them again? It seems like it could be a WinCE problem or maybe the version of primo.exe is somehow not recognized/loading correctly or maybe not a cr*cked version [the checksum looks different].

There is an ALTE.SAVE file and an gpsnvm.bin along with the EU+AU folder on the root of the drive, should they be there?

There also seems a lot of .dll library files in the Civic Reborn folder compared to what I see, in fact the only one I see is vautov5.dll

Anyway, many thanks for the help, if I sort it I`ll post back what helped.

    Matt

Sorry, one more...do you know if the the SAVE folder gets rebuilt if deleted, that seems the latest file accessed so could be a potential culprit!

SAVE folder is almost mandatory to delete. Only if you have saved your points and the like, but that can be backed up separately.
If navigation software and no other is in internal memory, you can format it (FAT32), just in case. And you should be able to adjust navigation path from device's settings, so you could run iGO from (good) SD card. This is the best solution to eliminate problems with the device itself.
EU+AU, alte save, they are put in by users. gpsnvm.bin is created by software, and will be created again.
Earlier, most users were crowding as much content as possible, also every dll, also every license file...most still do.
In the meantime, we learned a little knowledge
There is a lot of discussion on the Forum about this, mostly this is a short one.

Just wanted to say thanks for the help Boki, with your assistance, plenty of searching the forum and some jiggery pockery I managed to sort it.

The time settings were all screwed up (which is what I changed in the first place), after some messing with those the system booted into the fuel.rest.bmp file could not be found state so I thought I must be getting somewhere.
After this it was a case of deleting the .SAVE file on Root and the SAVE folder from inside the EU+AU folder. After that it worked fine, I just had to go through the initial set up again.
