We get this question once a week. Why would you not want to see an alert on map but wants notification of it? Anyway, it's possible to "hide" it (but not via dynamically turning it on or off)
I have igo primo (basarsoft) on my android head unit with doupas skin.
I have multiple speedcam categories (Fixed_Camera, Mobile_Camera, Accident_Zone e.t.c).
I can see on the map the icons of all these categories. I can enable/disable icons on the map for my pois but not for speedcam categories. Their icons are visible even if I turn of their notifications.
Is it possible to hide a specific speedcam category from the map without losing the notification?
For example I want to hide the icons for School Zones from the map. I can see these references on sys.txt

Do not PM me with questions. That's what a forum is for.
@ioannis0, here is a way to do what you want. Its copied from a word document I wrote for myself so I wouldn't forget, so all the screenshots have fallen off. I'll try to figure out how to add them in later when I have some time but this and a bit of reading around the forum will get you there.
I have to say I've never understood why NNG (and some members of this forum) think I want to have my screen cluttered with icons for hazards which are not on my route
Remove School Zone, Railway Crossing etc. Icons Cluttering the Navigation Screen
For unbranded, unskinned iGO, take a copy of data.zip and save it in a safe place. If you have skins or a branding.zip file you will need to save that too.
ON MY 800x480 WinCE DEVICE the file used for the main navigation screen icons is Speedwarn1.bmp
- Save an unmolested copy of your data.zip, branding.zip or skin.zip file and keep it safe!
- Make a working copy of the .zip file and extract all Speedwarn*.bmp files from …\ui_igo9\800_480 to a working directory. If your device is a different resolution change 800_480 accordingly
3. Open Dview and navigate to the working directory containing the Speedwarn*.bmp files. Click on each file to open it and note the file size; 800_480 .bmps are generally (but not always) 50x2048.
4. Using File/Save as, save each .bmp to a new directory as Windows or OS/2 Bitmap (*.bmp)
5.Select File Format: Windows, Depth: 32 bits RGBA8888 and click OK
The file is now converted to Windows .bmp format
6. To identify which .bmp file is used for the navigation screen icons, open (Axialis) Icon Workshop, click on File\open, navigate to the appropriate directory, choose Speedwarn1.bmp (the most likely candidate), and click Open. Pick a tool and colour and deface the image.
7. Save your modified image somewhere as a Windows BMP (*.BMP;*.RLE;*.DIB)
8. Replace the bmp in data.zip. This is most easily done using Total Commander as it avoids problems with formatting. Open your working data.zip in one pane and the directory containing your modified bmp files in the other, then select the modified files and click Copy.
9. Click OK or press Enter
10. Click Overwrite
11.The file is copied
12. Alternative method using Pixelformer. To identify which .bmp file is used for the navigation screen icons, open Pixelformer, click on File\Import, select “All supported file types”, navigate to the appropriate directory, choose Speedwarn1.bmp (the most likely candidate), and click Open.
13. Zoom in to 800% and click the Selection tool. Click and drag the rectangle around the Railway Crossing icon then use the Eraser tool to remove it.
Rectangle Tool
Eraser
Selection Tool
14. In case it makes a difference, scroll down to the school zone icon use the Selection Tool again. This time use the Colour Picker to choose transparent, then use the brush tool to paint over the unwanted icon
15. Click in File/Export and save the modified image as a Windows bitmap
16. Choose Format A8:R8:G8:B8 (32bpp) and click OK
17. Open the modified bmp in Dview and check it is still the same size (in my case 50x2048) as the original. If not, use the edit/scale command to correct the size. If you do this don’t forget to save.
18. The modified .bmp in windows bmp format will be several times the size of the original. If you want you can convert it to NNG bmp format by opening it in Dview and saving it as an NNG bmp.
19. Replace the bmp in data.zip. This is most easily done using Total Commander as this avoids problems with formatting. Open your working data.zip in one pane and the directory containing your modified bmp files in the other, then select the required files and click Copy

I don't mind to disable it manually but I don't know what I should edit.
I have searched the forum many times in the last months but I haven't found a method.
I want to hide the School zone because there are so many school zones in urban areas and the icons are hiding half of my screen.
Here is my UX that will "hide" SchoolZone (category=9) icon that I tested for NextGen* Gift.
Spoiler: .
* I don't remember if iGO/Primo speedcam icons are the same as NextGen
Update: Re-attached because original was for only hdpi

or you can remove the file school zones from the content / speedcam folder also deleting the file speedcam.spdb
"SchoolZone" is not just located in a single .spc file (like from Australia/New Zealand) Anyway, OP said:

Thank you for your replies.
I mentioned that I don't want to lose notifications because I was thinking to hide other stuff from the map too without losing the notifications. I don't mind about school zone notifications but I want to keep them on other categories like traffic lights that I want to hide from the map.
This is my content/speedcam folder and part from my sys.txt. I got them from Greek forums to enable other stuff like toll values announcements.
Spoiler: screenshot
Spoiler: tekst
I tried to remove GR-09_SchoolZone.txt and speedcam.spdb but the app was crashing.
I see that speedcam categories in sys do not line up perfectly with the file names in speedcam folder. Is this normal? What's the rule that creates the connection between speedcam files and sys.txt?
Anyway I tried osiris4isis method with success. I decided to just resize the icon dramatically so it's not completely hidden. It was indeed speedwarn1.bmp in skin zip.

The only "rules" that should be followed is the one that matched up. What is in the speedcam data files (.spc and .txt) should reflect the same in sys.txt
For .txt, it's simple, since you can read it. For .spc, it's another story. But if you don't change the "normal" set of speedcam alert types (about 10 of them), you should be ok.
As to crashing when you removed the .txt and speedcam.spdb, it shouldn't. Perhaps you should test without using any skin.
