    Default Bricked Garmin Nuvi 1300

Here is my tale of woe. Purchased a Nuvi 1300 from a Thrift Store. It would not power on. Figured the battery was dead. On a charger, it would power up for a few seconds and then die. Bought a new battery on Ebay. Installed it and made the foolish mistake of powering up to test it with the case open. Unit did power up and work. However, once reassembled it was bricked. Stuck on the Garmin screen and just keeps rebooting if connected to USB.

Followed all the stuff in the un-brick thread. I can eventually get it to start updating. However, when it gets to the part about erasing, then it will eventually error out with the message.

"The Garmin device is unable to program the requested memory region."

I have tried several cables and several computers. That is always the error. I am using "nuvi13xxand14xxseries_GCDFile__630.gcd" I thought maybe an earlier firmware package might get past the problem. However, I cannot find any archive of old firmware any more.

Is it hopeless ? Or is it operator error on my part?

I know, I know, these old devices go for around $15 on Ebay. I spent more time on this than it is worth. However, it is the principle of the thing that I want to complete the un-bricking.

Many questions become very arduous, a lot of time chewed deja vu...Since we have lost all the year of work and effort, many people have no will to answer the same questions again. Me neither. Use a search, please.
