autovelox High Precision External GPS Tracker/Solution with iOS & Android Connection for RAW Data Output

Hello fellow forum boys and gals!

I'm developing a product/app for smartphones (iOS, Android) that would require us to use more precise (15-20 Hz) GPS tracking devices.

The best examples of such devices in terms of the form factor would be the Draggy, Racebox Mini or even something like a [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

We're currently in a situation where we need to find out the following:

    • are there any "open source" GPS trackers for smartphones that we could use to just "ingest" data into our app

    • if yes, what are the options here?

    • who are the manufacturers of such devices that we could get in touch with, are they OEM with some housing tweaks? For example, who would be the manufacturer of the Draggy or Racebox Mini, and what's the likelihood that it was developed in-house?

    • are we better off with WiFi or Bluetooth-based connection to the smartphone?

    • I know that for example GoPro just records data, and doesn't "do anything with them", you choose what you'll do with it, while for example in the RC world, you can use a couple of [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], hook it up to an Arduino computing unit and get data. Maybe there's some kind of out-of-the-box solution that would allow us to make a WiFi/Bluetooth connection to a smartphone, and it would provide us with a live data stream of GPS information which would our app then use?

For this first phase, we would like to see what we can do in terms of testing and trying out some of them more for the sake of the app, rather than the hardware itself. After that, we would decide if we would proceed with developing our own or going with a partner.

Also, there's a possibility I'm explaining/perceiving this problem from a bad angle, so any suggestions are welcome. What I do now is that we're trying to have this - high precision GPS that can output raw data which can then be interpreted by the app depending on what we need.

    Any help is appreciated

    Thank you!
