Actually all modern Garmin auto devices can do that, but perhaps not in the way that you want. On the map screen, pressing on the Vehicle icon will show another screen with your location in lat/long, closest intersection and the nearest address with street name and number, plus closest hospitals, cop shops and gas stations. It's only a single button press to switch back and forth from the map screen to the info screen. These are from a 3590:

In earlier units, it only updates ever 5-6 secs, but recent and current ones update every second or two. Current nuvi type units show at the base of main map screen the road/street name on which you're driving even when not navigating, but not the passing house numbers as you've found. This is how a 3597 and other current units will display the map screen:
