HaHa, you Russkies are such FUNNY guys! So you agree with G. do you, that the term 'megabit' was only relevant then in regard to data transmission? Not so, but seems you don't remember it's other usage unfortunately [btw, it's not like this with facts: "if you can remember the '60s you weren't really there man"].

The proper term is megabits per second [Mb/s or Mbit/s] when talking communications/data transmission [your 'streamers'?] of course, often expressed informally as 'megs' or 'megabits' for sure, but referencing 'speed' but that's not the only way the term Mb is valid. If you RU guys really want us to collectively continue beating our heads against a brick wall by arguing whether we aught to use non-official abbreviations over official ones, and what really is decimal and binary usage, and whether a bit/kilobit/megabit can not only be transmitted but also has size and occupy space or use capacity, then i'll spin this off and move the OT posts into a discussion thread somewhere in free talk section. Then we can continue with the original OT with or without resorting to even further and more way-out OTs .... So just say the word.

PS: Boy, you guys do stick together in dropping matches [which may then ignite bushfires] don't you ..... Extrapolating to binary weight, currency and lengths is interesting, but actually a 'binary rouble' really might help your economy quite a bit [i guess it would then have 102.40 kopecks and be called the RUB[B]?

.Yes, i do not remember, and it is not 'seems' - this is the fact stated in my previous post.
As for the streamers (storage devices on magnetic band of sequential access) - those seem to be of potential use of such units of capacity - Megabits.
As for the '60s - i do remember Gagarin's flight to outer space
