    Default Unbricked Drivesmart 70 ...

I'll post the down and dirty here as, in the situation of a bricked device, you are looking for answers. The story will follow in additional posts for those curious or requiring more detail...

First and foremost, I found the Drivesmart 70 to respond as all of the info on this site describes for the Nuvi units. The 'Cure', Updater, SD card Update.txt commands... everything I read here for the Nuvi worked on my Drivesmart 70. I found the Drivesmart 70 to be a 2268. I also found the 'Cure' almost impossible to find on the web- join this forum and save yourself a ton of searching.

I stupidly bricked my device when it was first plugged into Windows 10. Windows said that it looked like the storage might be damaged and did I want Windows to scan and fix it? I missed the 'and fix it' and clicked on yes. Windows scanned, said there was some problem and that it was fixed. After that, GarminExperss could not detect the unit. Windows saw it as a mass storage device. I unplugged the unit, turned it on, and it froze on the Warning screen. If I agreed, it froze. If I let it time out, it froze.

The fix was following the instructions in this post- [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

After following these instructions, my unit booted all the way up and I was able to connect to GarminExpress to update software and maps. It was then a long slog to reassemble the history, find my custom vehicles, Dr. Nightmare's voice (I call him Lurch), and restore from my last update.

I'll share the details in the following posts for reference in case someone finds them useful, or to add details because the assumption for this post is that you made it this far and could enter between MTP and Mass Storage Mode. I found that a lot of my research was because specific instructions were not clear to me and it took a bit to educate myself on how these things work.

A big hats off to this forum and those kind enough to share their knowledge. Providing the wealth of information here made my device recovery so very much successful...
