Default ---> How to see a TRACK in a garmin NUVI? <---

Hi. my english is very basic.

This that I explain to you next also serves with the models of the series ZUMO (not very old). It does not modify anything of the gps and even you can provar from a microsd card, you will have to create in the main directory of the card a folder that calls MAP and it is already.

    What do we do?

    RIDING A MOTORBIKE or 4x4

And what do we need to go by motorcycle (apart from the motorcycle)?

KNOW WHERE TO GO , know where the gas stations are , know where the restaurants are, and that's it. Everything else is too much for us. The idea is that you go down a road, you see the gps (right or left) and even the next crossing (if you need more information, more than anything in case you ever have to launch a ground-air missile, do not keep reading, you need another type of gps, of those that are worth 400 ).

    And what is the problem?

That I have spent 400 on a GPS and I DO NOT SEE THE TRACK LINE. how fine it is.

"More read to the fire". I see that the years are the same for everyone, "I'm also with the put ... glasses" and it was hard to see the track on the GPS because now I do not even see it almost. That's why the importance of it looking good the line of the track (you spend 400 on a good gps and then you do not see the line of the track of how fine it is.) It is to **** on the mother who pario them.

    -. The solution:

Well, it seems to me that I have found a solution for this issue and it is also cheap (since we will recycle devices that can be found in the "walapop or milanuncios" for little money.

The theme is to use GARMIN NUVI car navigators (series 13xx, 14xx, 22xx, 23xx, 24xx - (2597 adjustable screen (vertical-horizontal (activated by menu, which you tell if you want vertical or horizontal) series 40, 50 and models superior to these series. In the following link you can see the characteristics of each model (year of manufacture, screen size, if you have bluethot, etc). GPS is nothing more than a computer. The most recent manufacturing year is the best.

The one I use is the NUVI 2200, which is from the 2011 year 3.5 "screen, I need it to be small, I do Enduro myself (the gps chip it carries is quite accurate, the tracks it records are very accurate and works fast, so you better look for models from that year onwards).

-. And what can we do with these GPS? OF ALL .

    - LOAD TOPOGRAPHIC MAPS (In Garmin's IMG format). Topohispania.

    - * LOAD TRACKS WITHOUT POINT LIMITS. (All that fit in the memory or SD).
    * Convert track.gpx to track.img. very easy to do.

    - RECORD TRACKS (In the day we can trackBack). the rest from the computer we can access them.

    - SAVE WAYPOINTS (FAVORITES).

    - POI (They allow to install pois).

-. But these GPS do not accept TRACKS?

If it is true, but we do it is to convert the track in .GPX format to .IMG map format (that this format does if these gps show it). The GPS when finding an .IMG file will show it as another map more in the menu of GPS MAPS and from there we can select it. To select the map you have to look for an option that says "Map Info" and there are all the maps. The track that you have converted to a map is as if it were a photo that is superimposed on the background map (topografic). You just have to follow the line.

The whole kit of the question is in the gps MAP folder (if it is not, you create it in the main directory). Ah inside you will put the maps (with any name) and the converted tracks to IMG.

The program that we will use to convert the tracks .GPX to .IMG is the IMGfromGPX . You can download it in the link below or in my link is also.

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

I always charge everything in the internal memory of the gps (the bike vibrates and in the long run the sd can give you problems, apart from making the gps waterproof the slot of the sd the covers with silicone).

-TRICK- . You make a track, in the waypoints (gas stations, restaurants, etc). Ok you pass it to IMG with the program. Then when you follow the track the waypoints go out as you find them, you see them but you can not interact with them. I do the following.

I convert the track to IMG, but I do not convert the waypoints, only the track. So what I do is open the (mapsource or basecamp) I open the track, delete it and save only the waypoints in a file called TEMP.GPX. This file is passed as is to the GPS, to the GPX folder (if it tells you that the file already exists, nothing is wrong, the old file is only used once by the gps). Then you will have the waypoints in the FAVORITES menu of the gps. Now when you follow the TRACK the waypoints will go out as before but now you can interact with them, if you go to the FAVORITOS menu they will leave you there ordered by proximity (you will know the missing km to reach them ( Antonio how much is missing for breakfast? wait 7 km) and if you select it and press go the gps will take you navigating to the waypoint (following the track or not, it depends .. This is fine if you find a path cut or whatever) .

    -. The result:

You can see the TRACK in blue ...

It's my gps, I put it that way.

.-. But these GPS can not get wet?

No, but you can make them waterproof by applying silicone (below there is a video that explains it). OJO .... There are some models of NUVI that have a hole in the front that is the microphone, it would have to be covered too.

There are friends who tell me "huy if it gets wet I do not know what, I tell them it's a motorcycle, not a submarine". I wear it on my enduro bike with silicone and zero problems, just a little common sense (take it out when washing the bike or if it rains to seas).

-. How do I attach the GPS to the motorcycle?

I found a website where they have RAM supports for GPS at a good price (depends on the model)

This is what I wear on my bike:

On my bike I wear it like this:

Note: There are different gps models from the photos (I did a lot of tests and in the end I stayed with the Nuvi 2200 by size).

-. How do I connect it to the motorcycle's battery?

I have it fixed on the bike. Trim the tip, solder positive and negative wires. You cover everything and driving. No inventions (taking a lighter, with the vibrations of the bike give problems).

--IMPORTANT-- The transformer must be the original GARMIN that carries the gps, because they have a resistance of 17.3 Komnios between pin 4 and 5 at the tip of the mini-usb so that the GPS is put in load mode. If you use another it will give you problems (the gps is turned off at the end).

    - VERY IMPORTANT .-- The USB connector can not touch anywhere, if it will not be screwed in two outputs. It has to be hanging without touching anything. (Put your finger in your eye and now you see 100 km so you'll see how your eye looks like, since the usb is the same).

    ADDITIONAL INFO

In this link there is a lot of useful information about the operation of GARMIN NUVI browsers. Here it explains where the gps saves the route you make and how to pass new data from the computer.

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

This works and works very well (I just made a route of 480 km in two days, raining in seas at the end of the first day and zero problems), just worrying about driving. Brutal. I hope you will find all this research work (I have spent a few hours looking for information and testing things). If you try to put a picture of how you have placed on the bike.

    A greeting.

NOTE: One thing, where I roll there are very few rivers (that's why I chose the blue color for the track). That's going to taste just watch not use colors that already use the map (roads, way not to get stuck).

English is fine I managed to follow it.
If you could "edit" modify the images to be smaller or place them in a "Spoiler link" would help. Give it ago.

I have done one pic as a sample for you the spoiler link is the S with a square around it, you hilight what you want to add to a spoiler give it a comment like "test" you can change the sample name, and do that to all pics and you will good to go.

    OK, better.

If you see something that is not understood, correct it because I do not know more English.

    Thank you.

Just use google translate if you find it hard then copy/paste.
