The reason there is OTHER is because there are other Etrex models besides the 10/20/30
Well let me explain...
When I went down the track of GPS I bought the Etrex 'H', the yellow one without any maps. was so impressed with it over the years that I thought that Garmin must have made some big improvements over the years when they released the new Etrex range, DOH!
Boy was I wrong!
- The Etrex 10 is the same compared to my old 'H'! It's only saving grace is a USB port, that's it!
- The Etrex 20 is much much better and more stable but slow in every way (eg USB 1.0 - why?). The GUI is incomplete with no detailed OEM help instructions available.
- The Etrex 30 is the same except the compass, altimeter and temp options are unreliable (
firmware) and can't be disabled when they go haywire! Avoid.
But I needed to see Bluechart maps while on the water and as I only really use a GPS while I'm moving the 20 got the nod.
The 20 is great for fishing and bush walking, but generally I use the simple 'H' to find my way back to the car in huge event car parks.
Perhaps Garmin should stop Beta testing their products through external retail sales and do it before launch!
The 6X+ series looks great but where I am located it's serious money and I don't trust Garmin to live up to their claims.
I tend to buy at the end of a GPS model run now not the start...

But when you have amazing stuff like this coming out...
iPHONE Speed Tracker: Most accurate GPS Speedometer, HUD and best Trip Computer, Version: 5.0.1
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
...Garmin will need to 'wake up and smell the batteries' once the non glass flexible polymer iPhone comes out (2015/16)!
