^^ Agree ^^^. The existing Garmin tools will only ever work with the "old" .RGN and .GCD fw files. The newer Garmin devices, even those running Garmin's longstanding Proprietary OS but using encrypted firmwares, along with those with modified Linux/Android operating systems are unfortunately not so easily manipulated.
You need Linus Torvalds himself or someone of similar talent to hack your Alpha's fw. If someone's done it, they're keeping it under wraps.
