All seems to be sorted, thanks ... I ended up on a slightly different path, with the CURE firmware installed it came up on the laptop as a drive, so I deleted the newest .img file and then Garmin Express popped up and asked if I wanted to update the maps (which were already on my laptop) so I thought, why not, it'll replace the missing map files, and it seems that it did. For good measure I then ran Webupdater too while it was all talking, which reinstalled all the system software, then reflashed it with the original firmware using Updater to make it bootable again, and it seems to be happy and boots up into a map. History etc has gone but none of that mattered anyway as it was all from our last US holiday and I won't be back there for a while in the present environment. Thanks for all your help, hopefully get another 10 years out of it now, and I like bringing old kit back to life
