    weel Discuss possible conversion of nuvicam to dezl

    Anyone have PCB #'s for the nuvicam LMTHD and/or the dezl LMTHD by any chance?

    Searching the fw in a hex editor shows both nuvicam and dezlcam (I'm assuming you meant dezlcam not dezl) to have 105-02547-00. GMapTool discloses HWIDs of 2043 and 2141 respectively.

    lol Yea, exactly... Thanks for assuming correctly =)
    I was thinking the letters dictated everything & the 2 were synonymous, RIGHT up until having taken a look at the 7" (non cam) dezl

    If the PCB's are the same, then you should be able to change the product type by flashing the other product's firmware into it right? Im assuming the garmin stuff would frown on activities such as this, so is there a specific binary would I need to use on the host system to flash like this?

    From what I could tell looking at the 2 different product pages, it looks as though they both have all the same physical & logical capabilities (remote camera, traffic, speech recog, etc.) -Is there anything anywhere that would show what the differences in HWID's are?

    Thanks!

    Both are automotive devices however the big difference is that dezl devices have firmware additionally optimized for heavy trucks and a nuvi fw is only ideal for cars. If your ride is a Prius not a Peterbilt you really won't need the dezlcam fw, although it's probably like other dezl devices and will let you select car or truck mode.

    lol Yea, I get the differences in purposes for code -Normally I'd just buy a dezl & call it done, but since dezl's are a couple $ more than nuvi's on amazon, I figured I'd just buy the cheaper one & flash it over to the other product type.

    Comparing the specs/additional page between the 2, the only thing that seems to really stick out is "Automatic Incident Detection (G-sensor): yes", so the dezl may have an accelerometer that triggers video on sudden deceleration -which I figured was just always on & they had it configured to logrotate the oldest content out. Not HUGELY important to me... :/

    Anyways, what would I use to change the flash from 1 product type to another in a situation such as this? =)
    Thanks!

    Both devices have Automatic Incident Detection where the video is saved if a traffic incident is detected.

    As far as the conversion itself, because the PCB P/Ns match you should be safely able to do a full conversion by flashing the delzcam's firmware as an RGN file in preboot mode. However the safest way is to first test it by doing a hybrid conversion using the nuvicam's boot.bin combined with the delzcam's fw_all.bin and resources.bin while retaining the nuvi HWID of 2043. If something goes belly-up it's easier to recover it to a nuvicam with the original HWID. You'll need to copy it's nonvol memory before you do anything too. Happy to assist further with the hybrid fw should you wish to proceed.

    I have been able to do this successfully. Used v3.80 fw from dezlCam. All seems to operate as it should. Will report if I find glitches.

    Edit:

    I have decided to return back to original nuviCam (v3.70).

    unit operated 100% with the dezlCam fw (3.80) but it lost a few features that is available in nuviCam.

    "Car Mode" - dezlCam
    1. No lane assist
    2. No forward collision
    3. Can not set the location of the unit in vehicle (Left / Center / Right)
    4. No Realvision when arriving at destination

    If you have the need for the trucking mode this will work great.

    Reverting back to nuviCam fw was a painless process. To be noted that it does not guarantee that there can be problems doing this to a nuviCam unit.

    @jccoetzee
    If you haven't been clearing nonvol memory while doing your flashings of the nuvicam best to at least do it now. Neglecting that simple step can cause a lot of grief later, at worst an unresponsive device which won't turn on at all.

    @butters

    thanks for the advice , I have cleared it before and after each flash. Was not sure about the reason though.
