That certainly eliminates region 140 as enabling features then. Back to 16 as the likely source of feature suppression in 500. Because all the aera 5x0 hardware is identical and they use the same firmware the features are already present in the firmware. There are references to 'J C V' and 's a f e t a x i' in the firmware for example. We need someone to supply a copy of rgn16 from a 550 or 560 or someone who's done the conversion in some other way to post with info about it.
I'm trying to find someone with 550 model too.
@Royalist
Yes, please upload a copy of your 550's region 16 dump and i'll compare it to the one from his 500.
BTW, do you know the specific method used to upgrade your aera?
I don't know how the AERA 500 was upgraded to 550. I have already compared Shtyrman's reg16 with my reg16 - they are identical. So there are probably reg's that we don't know about.
Indeed the logo bins are the same. As region 140 dumps empty the key isn't there either. It must elsewhere in a region used by both aera models though. I'd think dumping everything from yours and a virgin 500 then by comparing them the secret will out. Otherwise it may be that someone has modified the firmware, maybe the main system software (fw_all) in region 14, or perhaps the supplementary system software (fw_all2) in region 85. Who knows, it may even that one of the other regions in 5xx's fw such as 253, 254 or 250 as they are not usually present in the fw of 'standard' auto navigators. But i guess because all 5xx use the exact same fw it more feasible the modification's been done to some other region in much the same way region 140 can be altered to enable features in some automotive devices. In short, without another full region dump from an unmolested 500 we'll never know.
