This is how I do it:
    1. Install Garmin USB drivers on your computer.
    2. Download the appropriate *.GCD firmware file for your unit.
    3. Make sure GarminCure3.exe and Updater.exe are located within the same folder (or both on your desktop).
    4. Start GarminCure3.exe.
    5. Drag & drop the *.GCD file in the browse window of GarminCure3.
    6. Select “ORIGINAL”.
    7. Click “Make firmware”.
    8. Verify the contents in the output file window and click “Updater.exe”.
    9. Select “USB device”.
    10. Put nüvi into preboot mode as follows:
--> Make sure nüvi is switched off.
--> Press and hold top left corner of the nüvi screen.
--> While still holding top left corner of screen, connect nüvi to PC via USB cable.
--> Ding dong! (sound when nüvi is recognized by PC). Keep holding the left upper corner!
--> nüvi details will be shown in Updater window.
    11. In the Updater window, click “OK” (don’t wait too long!).
    12. Flashing of ORIGINAL firmware will start. Progress bar shows progress.
    13. You can now release the upper left corner of the nüvi screen.
    14. Wait for the process to finish.
    15. Disconnect the nüvi and let it reboot.
