Make sure nuvi is switched off remove sd card if you have.
Plug small end of usb cable into Nuvi but do not plug big end into computer
Hold upper left corner of display with one hand (do not switch on nuvi must be off)
Now use other hand to plug big end of USB cable into computer. (wait)
Beep Bop sound and you should be in pre-boot mode.
(If you cannot get into pre-boot mode it will be difficult to repair Nuvi)
(If it fails now you need to try new cable, clean usb plugs with alcohol, use XP Computer and login as Administrator)
I've done what you told, but at the 'Beep Bop sound and you should be in pre-boot mode' step, the Nuvi didn't go in pre-boot mode. The PC read the nuvi as external hardisk. I think the nuvi's screen doesn't response to any touch.
