I was in Johanesburg last october by the way..great country..
I think am almost solved the problem..but wait for confirmation..
your suggestion doesnot work as The laptop and garmin programs recognize the device as mass storage device and not as a garmin gps device.
so, does not make sense to use mapupdater or webupdater..
I figured out other solution inspired from Caty..
