Thread: Convert nuvi 1300 to 1480 jp

This is a tutorial about converting your unit from nuvi 1300 to 1480. This will add routes option and mp3 player. Working.

Using RGN_tool make a rgn version of the gcd file but replace the boot with the original (5.80).
Dont forget to check and change the HWID to 972 and the SW version to 580 or otherwise it will not work.
Before flashing, using the RGN voice editor, turboccc.wikispaces.com/RGNVoiceEditor edit the rgn file you created to make all the audio files you have compatible with the new firmware.

1. connect nüvi to computer, enter .System folder, and remove GUPDATE.gcd file. You should make a backup copy. This step is very important, if you skip it, it will not work! If you can't see the .System folder, enable "show hidden and System files and folders". Remove the folder "text" of your gps. Disconect the device.

2. download updater.exe . Make a folder and put the updater and the rgn file you've created inside. Drag the rgn file into the updater.exe.

3. enter pre-boot menu. You can do this by connecting your nüvi with computer, immediately as Garmin logo appears, press upper left corner and keep pressing until update is made. Keep your eye on the updater because it will show your device only for a few seconds. If you dont press ok faster as soon as your device pops in the usb menu you will have to start all over again (plug/unplug)
