I've never encountered such weird behaviour....
Can you check if the PC detects any new devices when you connect your nuvi with ORIGINAL firmware (open device manager and then connect the cable)?
Is it possible that your cable is a Garmin Service USB cable?

Try this, this help me on problem like yours.

Flash with cure FW and then create backup of your nuvi (dont forget hiden folder .System)

    Format nuvi to FAT32

Add back your backup and turn nuvi on

Go to hiden menu over cockpit and clear nonvol.

Can you also go to the battery menu (press and hold the battery icon until the menu appears) and tell us which captions change there when you connect the USB cable?

USB Device changes from no cable detected to Power Cable.
I limit USB changes from unknown to 1A
Power Source changes from Bat to Ext

As Alexander2010 says, a Power Cable is one having a 12KOhm resistor connecting the GND and the ID pins. So maybe your problem is due to some current leak either in the cable or in the nuvi. Then try using other cables and/or cleaning both USB connectors. If it still doesn't help then I can try to make a firmware patcher that forces entering the flash drive mode when a Power Cable is connected. However, this wouldn't be comfortable in everyday use.

Well, ive already tested with 4 different cables and in every port in my PC, with the same result. As said it works fine after cure FW but not after original FW is flashed.

    Any help is trully apreciated.

    thanks again.

You will have a problem using it with a Car Power supply if the sofware is patched to enter USB Mode with a Charger Cable.
