Can I create a cure firmware for my garmin astro 220 with GarminCure3 tool ?
How I enter in the pre-boot mode ?
@gvp
If it's like the astro 320 then with power OFF do this: Hold the 'up' button and power on. If that won't work, try just holding the power button down from off state which works with many other outdoor devices to reach preboot.
Hello guys. My friend has a problem with his Oregon 450. Ha has connected it to smartphone and since them the navi cannot be seen by PC. I wanted to help him. Because forced mass storage mode and RGN method failed I prepared the cure firmware, described in this topis, and installed it in the Oregon. But the internal memory still was not be recognized by PC. I checked it with several USB cables, ports and on 2 computers. So installed the normal firmware again. Is it possible to repair the device?
@Thomlodz,
Oregon 450. Ha has connected it to smartphone and since them the navi cannot be seen by PC
Forced USB Mass Storage Mode (only available in release 2.85 and after)
If your Oregon freezes during the startup process (i.e. Loading Maps...), and you've just loaded new maps or new gpx files then it could be the new files which are causing the problem. This procedure forces the unit into USB Mass Storage mode so that you can delete (or rename) these files. Follow these steps to recover:
1 Attach the Oregon to your computer via USB cable
2 The Oregon will power on and start to boot, immediately power the unit off while still connected
3 Power on the Oregon and continue to hold down the power button for 30 seconds
4 The Oregon should enter USB mass storage mode
5 From your computer remove or rename any gpx, map files (.img or .kmz) files that were recently added
6 Unplug the Oregon and power on to see if this remedies the problem
During step 3) you should only see the Garmin banner for 30 seconds followed immediately by the graphic that shows a computer connected to a GPS. If you see any other text such as your custom banner, banners for loading maps, waypoints, etc then you have not held down the power button long enough.
My PC doesn't recognize the Oregon as a USB mass storage device. How do I fix this?
The PC probably doesn't have the proper drivers installed. From Garmin's FAQ:
If your device is not recognized by your computer as a separate drive and the Oregon is in mass storage mode please use the following steps to prompt your computer to recognize the device:
Turn the Oregon off and insure all cables are disconnected from the Oregon
Press and hold the power button
Continue holding power while also plugging the mini-USB cable into the Oregon
The computer should now recognize that a device is plugged in. You will then see the Found New Hardware Wizard appear and be prompted how to install the necessary USB drivers. Choose "No not at this time" and then select the option to install USB drivers automatically. When the USB driver installation is complete choose "Finish" and the Oregon should now be seen by the computer as a separate drive.

Asprin624 Thank you very much.
But I have tried all these steps. And they didn't help.
How did you connect an Oregon x50 to a smartphone? I suspect you damaged the USB interface on the Oregon x50 circuit board in so doing.....
It appeared that is was not a hardware problem. After several trials I managed to format the internal memory. Then I loaded the normal firmware and now Oregon 450 works perfectly

Now there is a similar problem with Edge 800 of my another friend. I have used GarminCure3 and then formatted internal memory with HDD Low Level Format Tool. Then i have formatted it in Windows 10 ad tried to load the normal firmware according to the manual (it has been successful with the Oregon 450) [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. But now when I type > Updater.exe gupdate.rgn in the next command prompt and start the Edge (connecting to PC with USB cable and pressing power button) and press Enter the Updater starts but do not see any device in the USB connection Window. I tried several times and all the same. The Updater gives Windows Error 2 code. What to do now?
