Thread: Edge 800 US to TWN FW update failure

Hi all,

I will be traveling to Taiwan soon and would like to use the Edge 800 during my stay there. I asked Garmin's customer support and was told that the US version Edge 800 with its firmware 2.40 will not accept maps for Taiwan. Only TWN firmware would be able to display and buy the taiwan maps (not really sure if thats entirely true)

I tried using updater.exe to load the TWN 2.50 firmware but I got a System software missing message. I then tried using turboccc's RGNtool and changed the HWID and SW version to match the US firmware. Using this and the updater.exe, still no luck, System software missing message appears.

Am I doing something wrong? Can anyone please help?

I have an Edge 800 Taiwan version that I would be willing to trade for the US version. I got a good deal on it via e-bay and am satisfied with it but it sometimes shows Chinese characters. It comes with the Taiwain Basemap. I have replaced it with the WW Autoroute map. I can change that back.

May be firmware has additional hwid check?
