Let me ask again: how can i be sure to have an us or EU unit and not an Asia (or what else) one that this tutorial works for it?
Is it on the data card test page "model USD"?

I answered the question you asked. Unfortunately my mind-reading powers where destroyed when i started dating.
If you had asked the 2nd question first, I would have given you 3 answers:
1. As voyager56 says, check your files backup or browse for the xml on the unit via usb.
2. You can find it on the unit though, and you were warm with 'data card test page', but that page gives you the MicroSD S/No. On first page ('SW Ver x.xx nuvi 3790'), 'Next' takes you to 'Version Information nuvi 3790' page, to reach 'Inventory' page, press 'Start Test' > 'More'. The first 3 entries (Boot BLK; X-Loader & System) have the HWID in first 4 numerals following them. For 39x0 it's 'B1101-00' followed by the fw version. After you convert to 34x0, You will have to press 'Back' about 10 times to reach the Version Information page and your HWID will then be 1376 on Inventory.
3. You can also find it by dragging the gupdate.gcd from the unit's .system folder into RGN_Tool. (See Post #1).

I'm sorry for asking the question not exactly! but anyway, i don't have a Asian unit and the conversation process worked great! Thank you to all of you guys who made this possible.
One further question: do i need some special files for the terrain view, or is the data already in the city navigator map included (like 3d buildings) ?
By 'terrain view' you mean DEM i guess and for that you need to add the gmapdem.img specific to the mapping area you are using.
For 3D buildings you also need gmap3d.img. Included in many CN's are polygons showing building outlines (2D).
PS: I wasn't cranky about the way you asked the original question. I should have worked out what you meant by the context. My 2nd reply was meant to be humorous/lighthearted but sometimes that doesn't get conveyed in my written words. (Short version - NP).

Quick question, why would you want to downgrade your 37xx firmware to a 34xx firmware? Are 34xx firmwares better in any way?
