It's an initialisation/abbreviation of MediaTek who are a (sometimes) supplier of chipsets to Garmin:
MediaTek supplies chipsets and other electronic hardware components to electronic device makers, but they outsource the manufacture of their products to specialist foundries. That is, they are a 'fabless' company. This means they don't fabricate what they design and sell.
