OK I did a direct download via WIFI on the 66s
Then I did a Basecamp download to the 66s
    Both look the same.

As I do not use BirdsEye:
What does the patch do more than I can do already with my 66s be it direct download via WIFI on the 66s or being connected to Basecamp to download to the 66s???

Both files sit on the SD card in the folder \Garmin\BirdsEye with the ending .jnx

This patcher came out back in 2011 long before Garmin offered free BirdsEye to some its newer models of GPS.

The question is very simple what more can I get if I were to patch the GPSMAP 66??

I read all of the info a couple of times in the first 3 or 4 first posts.

As "whitewater" post about his gpsmap 66sr

What more can that patch give you if you can use jnx file at anytime on the 66 series already???

I understand those Garmin units having annual subscriptions need to bypass it.
This patch came out back in 2011 long before Garmin offered free BirdsEye to some its newer models of GPS.

I am not trolling but asking a question in hopes to get an answer.
How is one to understand things clearly with out asking a question when it is about the GPSMAP 66 series.

I spend a lot of time reading about many GPS units and apps here and in many other forums.
Spend lots of time going over all the items in each units and apps as to understand what they do.

Just a straight answer in regards to the GPSMAP 66 series that's all.

If you are completely satisfied with Garmin's BirdsEye services and never use custom or third party JNX maps, you don't need this patch.

    To answer asprin624 question:

    A. The patch allows the device to use Garmin BirdsEye *.jnx maps downloaded via BaseCamp.
    B. The newer Garmin GPSr models with BirdsEye Direct will not allow the user to view older 'BaseCamp' BirdsEye maps without this patch.

The patch is very useful if you want to use custom maps in *: JNX format the real problem is that with the disappearance of whiter no one is able to continue developing the patcher, so I don't think there is this possibility for new devices. Alpha 200 example. Anyone have information on how to use it on new devices?

You can't to load custom made jnx images without patching software, you get error "invalid jnx file" .
