Thread: Alternative Nuvis Firmwares

First read this whole thread from cover to cover.

First update your device to 5.90 US and make sure it works properly for a few days.
You need your current gupdate.gcd(5.90 US) and the Singapore Gupdate.gcd
Open your 5.9 US in Turboccc RGNTOOL and save the US boot.bin
Open your singapore version in RGNTOOL and save the Fw_all.bin and the fw1_resources.bin
Now use the RGNTOOL to combine 5.90 US boot.bin + singapore fw_All.bin + singapore fw1_resources.bin
Click Both boxes at the top Sw Version and HWID
Change the Sw Version to 590
Change HWID to 972 (This is for non MTK devices)
Save the file as 097201000590.rgn (This is for non MTK devices) "I don't know if you get MTK 1490"

Hard reset the device.
DELETE GUPDATE.GCD from your device /.system folder.
In your device rename the text folder to was_text
rename the voice folder to was_voice
Now flash your device with the file you created using UPDATER.EXE in pre-boot mode.
Once the device boots rename the folders back to original name.

WARNING THIS IS A DANGEROUS PROCEDURE
FLASH DEVICE AT YOUR OWN RISK
"The Garmin Nuvi devices are not stateless devices and you could brick your device or have other problems in the future"

What is the reason you want to change it to Singapore. ?
Maybe there is another solution.
