catymag--I'm hoping you're right in that it'll work; I have a gut feeling Garmin wised up on later/new revisions of their Garmin app for iOS by forcing you to d/l the maps rather than including them by default in the app itself. I also discovered that you can't blacklist gold.garmin.com in the /etc/hosts file anymore--doing so will cause the Garmin app to spit out the unauthenticated dialog message for which you can't get past.
I'm guessing that the app checks to see if the GMA and UNL files are present--if they're not, then it assumes you don't have any maps and thus forces you to d/l them before it'll allow you to continue using the app...and if both GMA and UNL files and the map image file are there, then it'll try to unlock the map image using them and if those files don't unlock the map, then the app will tell you that you need to d/l maps (since then it'll know that it's not a valid map image since the GMA and UNL files aren't the correct ones).
Is there a significant difference in using gimgunlock+mapsigpatch vs. using just gimgunlock? I don't know if I have the former or latter gimgunlock but I do know I have a version of gimgunlock that works on unlocking img map files in general since I used it to unlock the 2016.20 gmap3D and gmapprom locked files and I can view it no problem in my Garmin 2.2 app for iOS.
