No, it's not showing the Garmin map on the phone. This app is using the mobile phone in the same way as the Garmin nüLink GPS models with a mobile broadband connection. In this SmartPhone Link case it connects through Bluetooth and uses the data connection in the mobile phone as a gateway to internet.

You can see the SmartPhone Link features with examples in this thread. Many of the features needs a subscription that you have to pay for.

In "my" experience, the Traffic services are nearly useless. I can't speak about the new HD services as I have no experience with them, but the regular traffic has never.... never... saved my butt or given me a legitimate warning about traffic.

It has done the opposite on occasion.... where it "warns" me of a traffic jam where none exist.

I have read better reports of the so called "live" traffic, such as those provided with Nu-Link. And I hold out h0ope that the new SmartPhone Link will allow for better traffic reports since it can be used as a sort of "Live" traffic reporting system and is "sort of" sinmilar to the way NuLink worked.
