edited the host file as shown, still showing Authentication Failure, to test the edit I put the phone in airline mode, Authentication Failure came up again.
went back, downloaded the "no map western europe" form this thread, the application loads fine, no more authentication problems.
transferred the maps from thailand to the western europe application, no go, maps will not load.

can someone teach me how to load the maps correctly or how to bypass the authentication on the original application, thank you !

I found the Authentication solution, in addition to editing the host file; the garmin-nav file needs to be replaced with a working one from the WE or US application.
