Thread: Free AdvOSM Road Maps of the World for Garmin and Basecamp

I would like to share with you the AdvOSM maps I developed for overland travel. I created the first one because I couldn’t find a map that displayed on my Garmin screen the important road information I knew was available in OSM—whether a segment was unpaved, impassable, or even closed. Developing the best possible road maps for my Garmins became a passion. Then friends with Garmins asked for adventure maps for their countries, then their friends. The project grew, over a year, to cover every paved and unpaved road, vehicle track, and footpath in the world (not cycle paths or bridleways except for those that allow motor vehicles or pedestrians).

In addition to standard map functions, AdvOSM maps evaluate all the available OSM data to display paved roads, unpaved roads, service roads open to motor vehicles, tracks open to motor vehicles, tracks and service roads closed to motor vehicles, track grades, surface warnings, narrow roads, ford crossings, weir crossings, protected areas, and footpaths, as well as terrain as optional 100m contour lines.

There are 22 maps, each available with or without contour lines, and each available for non-HD (e.g. Montana) and HD (e.g. Nuvi/Zumo) displays. Here is a screenshots at 50.70669,-120.43018 (Kamloops, BC), on a Montana on the left, and a Zumo on the right, with the GPS set to maximum detail (you can turn the detail down in a Garmin).
