    Or maybe should I try the multilingual first? Anybody else tried it on a device that old?
    All 1xxx have only partial compatibility with unicode characters such as Cyrillic and Greek. You will inevitably find some search problems with any EU localized device which does not have City Navigator NTU EU mapping issued as OEM. In case of the EU nuvi 1410, it came from the factory with the 'non-unicode' Garmin CN NT detail map. Therefore any other 3rd party maps with unicode characters are best avoided as per this warning:

    Is there a way to avoid that horrendous greeklish situation? .....
    I think you'll continue to have some problems using *any* map containing Greek-type characters on your 1410, Latin characters are what it's really originally designed for, however later firmware versions added some limited Unicode compatibility.

    Default PROBLEM with AutodriveHellas v5.20 NON-MULTILINGUAL with Greek ?!? HAS ANYBODY ELSE NOTED THIS?

    PROBLEM with AutodriveHellas v5.20 NON-MULTILINGUAL with Greek ?!? HAS ANYBODY ELSE NOTICED THIS?

    I recently updated 2 GPS 1490(US) and 1450(EU) w/version v5.20 NON-MULTILINGUAL with Greek Characters from v4.50T Greek.

    Note for non Athenians: Athens has the "ring of the center" (=circular area around the center of Athens) where only cars w/odd license plates may enter on odd dates and ...even... on even dates (for air pollution reasons, government says).
    AutodriveHellas proposes to the users to put "avoid unpaved roads" in order to avoid the ring of the center: When a user does this, the ring of the center appears with no roads and navigation is done around the ring of center (avoiding to drive in the center (in the cases his car is odd/even on even/odd days)

    Today I drove downtown (in the ring of the center) and all of a sudden the roads disappeared. For a moment I thought I had set "avoid unpaved roads" and I was correct so I disabled all the avoidances... The roads appeared for a while but soon they disappeared again. I changed the setting of avoidance of unpaved roads a couple of times ... the same. I changed the GPS unit (from 1450 to 1490) the same...

    I will try to investigate it and also reload the v5.20 maps and also try the previous versions and inform you but in the meantime:
    Has anybody noticed this problem with ANY version of v5.20 or the opposite, i.e. it works fine IN THE RING OF ATHENS? Please report !

    Above test with GPS nuvi 1450(EU) & 1490(US) powered by the same TMC receiver GTM-25.

    ==============
    "PROBLEM" SOLVED:
    ===========================================================================
    After a small investigation I found out that as all the roads of the "ring of the center" of Athens are characterized as "unpaved" (though they are not), they are "of least importance from a size point of view" so when you zoom out they are the first to disappear (leaving only the bigger roads in view). So if you start to zoom all of a sudden all the roads of the center disappear again. If you are ALREADY in the center without a navigation route, the zoom factor of the map is such that shows your car in a place without roads...!!! But if you zoom in everything appears back and navigation is normal (at any zoom factor)
    ===========================================================================
    SORRY FOR THE FALSE ALARM...!!!
